Franco Paris is a full professor of Dutch language and literature at the Università di Napoli “L’Orientale.” His main areas of interest are modern literature and the 17th century. His teaching and research focus on translation studies and cultural exchange between Dutch-speaking and Italian-speaking communities. Poetry is his favorite subject. He has translated numerous works from Dutch and English into Italian, by authors such as Hadewijch, Ruusbroec, M.K. Gandhi, J. Huizinga, C. Nooteboom, H. Claus, H.S. Haasse, and T. Lanoye. Since May 2008, he has been an honorary member of the KANTL, the Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature in Ghent. In 2004, he was the first recipient of the Translation Prize from the Dutch Foundation for Literature.
