Reading from a Poetry Collection for Very Young Children

À toi qui es là is a poetry collection for newborns featuring 30 previously unpublished poems written by 21 poets for Éditions Charlie Crane.

The authors, from very diverse backgrounds, hail from Haiti, Vietnam, the Congo, Quebec, Lebanon, France, and other parts of Europe. They include a teacher, a photographer, a slam poet, a singer-songwriter, a childcare assistant, a journalist, and a singer and documentary filmmaker.

Each, in their own way, offers a poetic vision of the world to welcome the baby. The goal is for every parent to find a voice or a text that resonates with them—words particularly suited to what they have just experienced, which they can make their own and whisper to their baby to tell them about their birth and the world to come. The aim of this collection is to create, through reading, a moment of sharing and connection between the child and their parent.

Mathilde Toulot

Mathilde Toulot is a publisher and literary mediator. After a career spanning nearly 20 years as a journalist and author, she founded Éditions Charlie Crane in 2025 with the goal of publishing books for newborns. At the same time, she works with the neonatology department at the Robert Debré Children’s Hospital in Paris and leads poetry workshops for parents and premature babies using texts from the collection for newborns she edits À toi qui es là.
