Accompanied by the electronic music of Cloé du Trèfle, Marie Darah will perform, among other things, excerpts from "Since You Haven’t Shot" (Maelström Editions), the story of a life concentrated into a moment of violence. The poet recounts the robbery she experienced and the unfolding of her thoughts during it.
Slam poetry, this spoken form of poetry, has become Marie’s outlet, her means of expression, her personal theater piece. Writing and slam are for Marie a necessity to break the silence and make her reality, which may also be that of others, exist, and thereby know that one is not alone, to create connections, to form a whole. Through a writing style that is sensitive, nuanced, and sharp, she reveals systemic violence and oppression against minorities. Her themes draw connections between her personal history and the dysfunctions of a society that she sees as binary, capitalist, post-colonial, and patriarchal.
